Immigration & Citizenship

We assist non-EU nationals, multinational companies, and employers across all immigration, global mobility, and Romanian citizenship procedures.

Clear procedures. Met deadlines. No surprises.

Romanian immigration procedures involve multiple institutions — the General Inspectorate for Immigration (IGI), the Territorial Labour Inspectorate, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and in some cases Romanian diplomatic missions abroad. Navigating this system can be daunting without specialized guidance.

Boian, Gaina & Associates SPARL provides comprehensive legal support for immigration — from the first long-stay visa through to Romanian citizenship. We have practical, documented experience managing work and residence permit files for employees of multinational companies, international specialists, and their families.

We understand that for companies bringing in international talent, the speed and predictability of the process are critical. For individuals, documentation accuracy and deadline compliance can make the difference between approval and rejection.

Services

What we cover

Work permits

We manage employment authorization and work permit files for non-EU nationals — including highly qualified workers (EU Blue Card), posted workers, trainees, intra-corporate transferees (ICT), and seasonal workers. We coordinate with the employer and the Labour Inspectorate throughout the procedure.

Residence permits

We assist in obtaining temporary and long-stay residence permits across all categories: employment, self-employment, studies, investments, family reunification. We also manage renewals and permit type conversions.

Romanian citizenship

We assist eligible individuals in acquiring Romanian citizenship through naturalization or reacquisition (former Romanian citizens or their descendants). We prepare complete files, verify eligibility, and represent before the National Citizenship Authority (ANC).

Family reunification

We assist residence permit holders in family reunification procedures — spouses, minor children, other relatives. We manage all necessary documents, including apostille and legalization of documents issued abroad.

Corporate mobility

We provide complete legal relocation packages for companies hiring or posting international employees to Romania. We coordinate multiple simultaneous files, ensure compliance with labor and immigration law, and provide support for employees' families.

Representation & emergencies

We represent clients before IGI, the Labour Inspectorate, consulates, and other authorities. We handle emergencies — including challenges against rejection decisions, requests for suspension of unlawful decisions, and any situation requiring rapid action.

Why Boian, Gaina & Associates

Practical, not theoretical experience

We have managed real immigration files for nationals from multiple non-EU states — we know exactly which documents are required, how they are apostilled, and which errors most commonly lead to rejections.

Full coordination with the employer

For corporate files, we coordinate with the HR department, the Labour Inspectorate, and IGI simultaneously — without the employer having to track parallel procedures.

Clear, realistic timelines

We don't promise the impossible. We explain realistically how long each procedure takes and what can be accelerated through urgent procedures or early filing.

Complete document support

We assist in obtaining, apostilling, and translating required documents, including coordination with authorities in other countries.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q

How long does it take to obtain a work permit in Romania?

The standard employment authorization procedure (Labour Inspectorate) takes 30 working days. The residence permit is then issued by IGI within another 30 days. Total estimated time: 2-3 months from submission of a complete file. Urgent procedures are available and can halve the timelines, at an additional fee.

  • Q

Can the employer hire the non-EU national before the permit is obtained?

No. Romanian law prohibits employing a non-EU national without valid employment authorization and residence permit. The employer risks significant fines and a possible prohibition on hiring non-EU nationals for a specified period.

  • Q

Which documents need to be apostilled for an immigration file?

It depends on the file type and the country of origin. Generally: criminal record extract, academic or professional qualification certificates, civil status documents (birth certificate, marriage certificate). Some documents require authorized translation into Romanian. We provide full assistance at this stage.

  • Q

How does Romanian citizenship reacquisition work for descendants?

Persons who lost Romanian citizenship through no fault of their own, or their descendants, may apply to reacquire/acquire Romanian citizenship. The file is submitted to the ANC or Romanian diplomatic missions. The procedure is simpler than standard naturalization and does not necessarily require residence in Romania.
